Haim Rocks Santa Barbara
Haim is So Cal’s hottest new rock act. The story gets better when you learn the band’s core features three sisters. Este Haim (25yrs) plays bass, the lead guitarist is Danielle Haim (23yrs) and Alana Haim (21yrs) plays rhythm guitar and keys. They were Saturday’s headline act on the “Funk Zone” stage at Santa Barbara’s New Noise Conference.
Haim captured the imagination of the sold-out festival crowd from the first power chords they belted out. Head’s were bouncing to the band’s edgy riffs and creative, melodic hooks. Their new single “The Wire” highlighted the tightly paced show. Between songs Este told the crowd that she’d done her share of partying in Isla Vista. The set included a particularly fierce cover of Fleetwood Mac's classic 1969 song, “Oh Well”.
The band’s set was temporarily paused when a fan sprayed water on guitarist Alana. Haim called the idiot out, telling him he’d have to deal with their real fans. The show crested with all three sisters pounding on percussion instruments to drummer Dash Hunter’s wild rhythms. It was pure rock ‘n’ roll abandon.
