In the latest Marvel comic book adaptation, we follow a group of misfits as they become the only hope to save the galaxy. Led by Starlord, Peter Quill (Chris Pratt, TV’s Community) he has to bring this group of the galaxies most notorious villains together and try to get them to work together. This becomes very hard for him as he quickly sees that they all have egos that need to get stroked, including his own.
This first movie in what will sure be a hit series, we get a first look at the comic book that is not as popular as some of the other ones in the Marvel universe. It has all the classic elements that we would come to expect from a movie adaptation from Marvel in the form of drama, action, comedy, and the right amount of heart to connect to the characters.
The movie certainly set the bar high for the rest of the movies that are going to come out in the series. There is already talk that there will be a crossover with The Avengers in the future and considering the kind of movie that it is, it is possible. No doubt it will have to do something with Thor and his world, but it’s going to be a very hard task to try and work with this kind of ensemble for a movie.
Perhaps one of the downfalls of the movies is the lack of character development. Though it is a hard task to try and develop characters in a movie that has a lot of stars, this one didn’t really have any kind of focus. The movie seemed to follow the formula that made The Avengers successful, except that this movie didn’t have the luxury of individual movies to set up the characters. This movie needed to introduce that characters a bit more then other Marvel adaptations because of the fact that it’s not as popular as the other comic books.
The movie is a good start to a new series for Marvel and is perhaps one of the better first movies in a Marvel series. It still has some flaws that need to get fixed up, but if they can improve on what this movie did well then there is no doubt this will become a big blockbuster kind of movie like The Avengers.
Guardians of the Galaxy stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Dave Bautista, Lee Pace, Karen Gillian, Glenn Close, Benicio Del Toro, and Djimon Houston and is Rated PG-13.
