“Growing Your Own Turtleneck” by Martha Bolton is a collection of short, humorous stories on the subject of getting older. A seasoned writer, who wrote for Bob Hope, Ann Jillian and others, the author presents a variety of essays that are amusing and sometimes insightful. It uses the same style as her other books; quotes from famous people and personal experiences.

When my mother was in her eighties, she started having senior moments. She started taking notes when she was reading a novel, because she would forget what happened in the last chapter. A book like this would be enjoyable for an older reader like her. Each chapter is its own subject. The chapters build on each other, but a forgetful reader wouldn’t need to keep track of the plot in order to enjoy reading it.
