Groppelo's fine italian cuisine with a hint of Brazil

Groppelo's Itallian food with a Brazilian flavor

Groppelo's is a classic american success story with a great back story. Maury Soares, a youthful hospitality pro, came to america by way of Brazil. His uncle had an italian restaurant for 40 years, near Rio De Janeiro where Maury worked for 6 years and learned the hospitality business. Prior to his emigrating to the U.S., his grandfather told Maury to open a restaurant with the name Groppelo's, a name which would bring the restaurant good luck.

After spending 10 years working in Port Washington at Sistina an italian restaurant. the owner decided to sell and offered Maury the opportunity to buy the business. Maury became the owner and then proceeded to name his restaurant Groppelo's. in memory of his beloved grandfather. Maury has completely renovated the new Groppelo's with an eclectic flair and an urban sophistication. In a very short period time Maury has built a large following from Port and the North Shore. Maury is charming, enthusiastic, and a very welcoming and gracious host.

We entered the small well appointed venue and were immediately welcomed by Maury whose infectious smile and personality won us over. Maury recommended that we try :

-Mozzarella cheese, thinly sliced tomatoes, and Extra Virgin olive oil. Superb!

-Home made fettucini alfredo with large whole shrimp. The fettucine was creamy, light and sensational

-Filet of Sole oreganata- beautifully plated and excellent.

We also sipped and enjoyed a glass of barolo wine that Maury recommended.

We than talked at length to Maury about his life and experiences in the culinary field. Maury's passion is fueled by the fact that he loves his menu, his staff, and his clients. While we were there, one of his clients went out of her way to sing his praises to us. He is a very grounded man who feels blessed to have succeeded in a highly competitive field.

We laughed, relaxed and thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon with Maury and his terrific, and innovative menu.

Groppelo's has a outdoor dining area with a spectacular view of the Port waterfront. A perfect way to spend a spring/ summer afternoon or evening.

Groppelo's and Maury are a winning combination that should only get bigger and better as time goes on
