With two successful Costa Mesa locations under their belt, Greenleaf Gourmet Chopshop debuted a new cocktail menu – unique cocktails made with wine-based liquors and house made ingredients. With flavors that remind you of the holidays or a warm, winter day in Orange County, the bar staff has just the right libation to wet your whistle.
Let’s take a look at some items on the New Cocktail Menu:
Cranberry Noir contains Leese Fitch Pinot Noir, cranberry juice, vanilla extract, lemon zest, sea salt, and sparkling soda. It had a light flavor - creamy vanilla aroma on the nose and floral finish. The lemon zest added a zingy flavor. I found the cranberry flavor was too subtle as the pinot noir took over the palate, but had a beautiful deep magenta color. Thumbs up!
Ginger Sparkler contains Petrov Reserve (vodka), Triple Sec (orange flavored liqueur), lemon juice, cubed sugar, muddled ginger zest, Prosecco (Italian sparkling wine) float. It tasted like an alcoholic ginger ale with a citrus twist. It was very refreshing with effervescence from the Prosecco bubbles. This is my favorite drink on the menu! Thumbs up, way up!
Strawberry Fresca contains Petrov Reserve, Triple Sec, lemon juice, muddled strawberry and orange, pomegranate juice, Prosecco float. It tasted like hard strawberry lemonade. It was bright and had a fresh strawberry flavor. I love the Mason jar presentation! Thumbs up!
If you’re not up for a whole meal, opt for one of these healthy small bites:
Grilled Deliciousness for winter contains grilled pear, micro arugula, burrata cheese, crispy prosciutto, and balsamic reduction. I normally do not like pears but the creamy burrata cheese, sprite baby arugula, and crispy, salty prosciutto actually hid the pear flavor that I do not like. Thumbs up!
Kale Chips are kale tossed in olive oil and lemon juice with kosher salt and then baked. They were crispy and the lemon gave it a light refreshing flavor. Great pairing to munch on with cocktails! Thumbs up, way up!
Parmesan Crisps mixes parmesan and seasonal spices and then baked. They are not actually crispy, but a little chewy like melted cheese. I love cheese so this was perfect for me. This paired well with the Cranberry Noir cocktail. Thumbs up, way up!
Meatballs & Toast are turkey meatballs in spicy tomato sauce, topped with fresh baby mozzarella and basil, served on a whole wheat ciabatta. The meatball was moist and tender, but I found it a little too sweet with the tomato sauce. I would suggest adding more salt and chili pepper to balance it out.
