Greener Groundz sets the bar for social responsibility

Locally owned and operated café, Greener Groundz, is brewing up more than just great tasting coffee.  Owners Benita Bartley and Molly Kerby are two of the hardest working women in Bowling Green and they’re mission? To run a socially and environmentally just operation that supports its local community in as many ways as possible.

Their diverse menu includes as much organic and locally grown products as are available.   They personally roast all of their different coffees, which they buy organic and at fair trade prices in order to ensure that the coffee bean farmers are getting paid a decent wage.  When in season, they shop the farmers markets for ingredients and even grow a lot of their produce in their own backyards such as tomatoes, peppers, squash, and zucchini.  They even have a seasonal herb garden planted behind the restaurant which they harvest for seasoning their menu items and for blending their own organic teas.   Greener Groundz also offers eco-friendly, biodegradable cups and utensils as opposed to the less expensive Styrofoam or plastic.

The flavors of coffee, offered by the cup or the bag, are named after rescued shelter dogs such as Phoenix’s Pumpkin Pecan or Beamer’s Breakfast blend.  And the café is continually scheduling different themed benefit nights such as tonight’s Pasta for Pup’s where a percentage of the proceeds will go to helping out the humane society.

Greener Groundz is the epitome of what business today should be (and should have always been); socially responsible, socially just, environmentally conscious, and continually supporting and giving back to their community.  Not to mention their Pesto pizza is the greatest thing on this planet!

All of the "they're"s in this article should be changed to "theirs". Other than that, great article about an amazing business.
