The Ventura Harbor is a relaxed escape from sweltering inland valleys anyone can enjoy. I took my friend for a scrumptious seafood sampler at Brophy Brothers overlooking the sparkling harbor lined with fishing and pleasure boats. Easy to navigate broad walkways and a tangy sea breeze encourage a stroll around the harbor. For old salts who need to get out on the water there are water are taxi’s leaving every couple of hours on harbor tours. You can also rent a kayak and paddle away the day in serene waters.
Home to Island Packers, theVentura Harbor, is the gateway to the Channel Islands. You can go out on the open ocean where whales and dolphin play on a boat ride that takes you across the channel and around the small island of Anacapa. If you are up for a day hike and picnic take the excursion to Santa Cruz detailed in my Great Outdoor Day # 5.
Land lubbers enjoy live music and many scheduled events that are listed on the Harbor Village website. There is an impressive video there that provides a terrain overview to help you get your bearings. The nearby beach is a perfect place to watch the sun go down. Currents in the ocean can be rough so swimming is not encouraged, but there is also a protected lagoon that is safe enough for toddlers. A happy day cooled by ocean breezes livened by the cries of gulls and the scent of the sea is waiting for you.
