I have stayed at a host of B&B's and while some dress up continental items and call it “breakfast”, The Chestnut Cottage’s fare celebrated true southern cooking. Guests can choose from homemade French toast, pancakes, cheesy eggs, stone ground grits, fresh fruit, or whatever your palette desires. As the chef stated “I can make just about anything.” I believe she meant it since the food was absolutely delicious. Occupants can enjoy these menu items in the dining room with the other guests, or stay in their pj’s for alone dining in one of five personal dwelling quarters for a truly relaxing experience.

Chestnut Cottage with its great colonial décor throughout the home was the home of Mary Boykin Chestnut, author of A Diary from Dixie. The Cottage exhibits artifacts from the Civil War era and celebrates the home’s residents and guests via rooms named after them including the Mary Boykin Chestnut room, the General James Chestnut room, and the President Jefferson Davis.
