Recently, my family decided to try the Delaware beaches, instead of usual Jersey spots. As soon as we arrived at the quiet beach town of Broadkill Beach, we picked up a menu for Grotto Pizza, which has been a mainstay at the Delaware beaches for over 50 years. Originally, I was just planning to order a pizza, until I saw a box proclaiming, "New! Gluten-Free Pizza!" for under 10.00. Finally, I could enjoy a take-out meal with my family, eating the same food.
Grotto Pizza's gluten-free pizza is a 9 inch pie with a tender, crispy crust and topped with Grotto's "special cheese and sauce." It was delicious and the perfect size for one hungry person. The restaurant we went to also offered Red Bridge gluten-free beer, so you could have a great GF beach meal for real.
Grotto Pizza is located throughout the southern Delaware beach towns, like Rehoboth Beach, Bethany and Lewes and in Wilmington and Newark. There are also shops in Wilkes-Barre, Edwardsville and Harveys Lake, PA. And now I'm going to start begging them to put a Grotto at the Jersey Shore.
