Grave Whispers is Liliana’s new mono-black deck in Magic: The Gathering's Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012 expansion. This discard-centric deck comes with plenty of ways to empty your opponent’s hand and lay out overpowering threats that need to be dealt with.
With a Bloodgift Demon and a Grave Titan in the base deck, drawing either of these combined with some of your Liliana’s Specters and Doom Blades will put you on the path toward winning easily. Let’s take a look at the Grave Whispers decklist and see how it stacks up to other Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012 decks:
Decklist:
2x Moan of the Unhallowed
1x Bloodgift Demon
Unlockables:
Grave Whispers is fairly quick out the gate and will often go 2 for 1 with Liliana’s Specters against many Duels of the Planeswalkers decks. Disentombs allow you to recur Specters for additional discard and drops or to recover one of your bomb cards – Grave Titan is simply an overwhelming force for any DOTP deck to contend with, and recovering it if it can be dealt with will be truly terrifying for your opponent.
Doom Blades and Consume Spirits offer significant and solid removal options to round out your dark armies.
Moan of the Unhallowed gives Duels of the Planeswalkers players a taste of Innistrad’s flashback and is a surprisingly good attrition based option against many DOTP decks, providing a total of 4 2/2 zombies over the course of the card’s lifetime.
Liliana’s unlockables present some potent choices – Ob Nixilis, the Fallen, Massacre Wurm, Hypnotic Specters and Quag Sickness all present options to take Grave Whispers to the next level, feel free to dispose of Liliana’s Caress and some of the discard fluff to sneak in these high power options.
If you’re preparing to bring Grave Whispers to Archenemy games, take advantage of some of the multiplayer options – Syphon Mind, Syphon Flesh, and Mortivore will all play nicely as you take on three players.
