Grasso's restaurant in Cold Spring Harbor is charming, and romantic, reminiscent of dining in quaint new england town. We decided to visit Grasso's on a beautiful fall night in october and were immediately impressed with the warmth and welcoming atmosphere as soon as we walked through their doors. Gail Grasso, the owner and hostess greeted us and led us to our table. We sat in a dining area with a large bar, near a small stage for the nights jazz group. Upon seating we were served two large dishes of oysters and mussels, with thick cut bread to mop up the broth from the mussels. Outstanding!
We then sampled an array of Grasso specialty appetizers and entrees:
-New England Clam Chowder- Rich, golden colored with a large baked clam in the center
-Two Salads- Gail's grilled pear made with bibb lettuce, blue cheese, candied walnuts, in a hazelnut vianaigrette dressing. A Classic Caesar- Salad made with romaine lettuce, toasted herb croutons, and parmesan crisps.
- We then sampled a bowl of Seafood Risotto made with PEI mussels, calamari, diver sea scallops, littleneck clams with a touch of tomato.- A neptunian treasure.....
We were now ready for our entrees:
-A large breaded veal cutlet topped with chopped tomatoes served with potaotes and assorted vegetables.
-An "out of this world" berkshire pork chop- made with pomegranate port wine demi glace, caramelized granny smith apples, roasted fingerling potatoes, and roasted brussel sprouts. Thick juicy, and off the chain delicious!
We also tried a dish of lobster mac and cheese- creamy and filled with tender chunks of lobster meat.
For dessert we were served hot homemade apple pie with vanilla ice cream and a plate of chocolate and vanilla tartuffo. both perfect sweet endings to a fabulous meal.
The evening we visited Grasso's we were entertained throughout the evening by a 4 piece jazz group (pianist/ singer, 2 guitars, and a trumpet. Their music and songs provided a delightful, romantic atmosphere that made made our evening intimate and delightful.
Grasso's is a combination restaurant and supper club with fine food, service and a charming owner/hostess..
