Grammys celebration of the Beatles

There have been numerous programs on television recognizing the Beatles 50th anniversary since they performed on the Ed Sullivan show back in 1964. They were a part of the so called "British invasion". There have been many recording artisits and musical groups that came to the U.S. following the success of the Beatles. The include: the Rolling Stones, the Dave Clark Five, Eric Burdon, Jerry and the Pacemakers, the Who, Steve Winwood and many, many more. Last night on CBS, the Grammy's assembled artists from the past to the present to sing the Beatles music and to celebrate what they have given to the music industry.

It was a fantastic show and the two and half hours it was on the air was not long enough. The duet of Alicia Keys and John Legend at the piano singing Let It Be was terrific. I think the two of them should record that song. Joe Walsh is still one of the best guitarists around. He and Gary Clark, Jr showed their guitar prowess on While My Guitar Gently Weeps. Timeless classics like Yesterday was performed very well by Katy Perry and Steve Wonder said that he was 13 when he heard the Beatles and he wanted to add a little funk to their song We Can Work It Out, which was a hit for him.

The show was a classy and memorable one. The last part of the show included Ringo Starr and Paul Mc Cartney each singing songs solo and they sang together. The visuals were very well done including the one for the song Yellow Submarine. Much like their music, the Beatles brought everyone together on the show and all of us who watched it on television. We cannot forget John Lennon and George Harrison who passed away. They were two of the original Beatles who played guitar and sang in the band and whose songs have had positive influences on the world.
