Grace cathedral has breathtaking architecture with vaulted ceilings, colorful stained glass windows and two labyrinths. To many this church is work of art in itself, but artist in residence Anne Patterson managed to give the space an even more ethereal air about it. Twenty miles of ribbon cascade from the ceiling. The colors accentuate the vivid color in the painted glass. The installation fills the space seamlessly and feels natural.
The artists vision of light as a pathway between heaven and earth is easy to embrace regardless of your religious views. The environment immerses you with peace. Walk the labyrinth inside, watch the shadows on the floor, look up, look around and breathe.
The exhibit has been so popular that it's been extended through the end of February. It is free to enter, but donations are welcomed. Grace Cathedral is located at 1100 California St., San Francisco.
