Swimming is an important life skill we can have our children learn. It also makes summer time water activities more fun if they are comfortable being in the water. Recently I had the opportunity to try out Goldfish Swim School for both of my kids and the outcomes were positive.
The facility is impressive. Spacious, clean, and warm like the Florida sun, which is nice to feel when it is frigid out. The tiki style tables is a nice touch to make you the feel if you were on Caribbean vacation while you could observe your child's swim lessons, or taking pictures of your kids while posting on Facebook.
The Goldfish Team is equally nice and outgoing, overall they all have a genuine interest in getting your child into the water and learning to love it. If you have a child that may be protesting one day, they will gently coerce them by using props and specific pool friendly character based toys to get them in the water. This was the case with my son. The following week the main floor instructor remembered and brought out the Disney Cars toys to get him excited and back in the water so no time was wasted. Each week he looks for those props and gets right in the water.
Have a child that doesn't like getting their face wet, at all? Yes, they can combat that too in a few sessions your child will be dipping their face in the water to see a whole new world below them.
Changing rooms are ideal and they use energy saving light system. Their push locks makes it safe to a child does not lock themselves from the inside.
It is great they have child friendly bathrooms, however it would be nice to see better signage to which stalls have child toilets only so it leaves no one guessing what is behind each bathroom door or walk in on a child who is using the bathroom.
They have a variety of classes from parent and baby classes starting at 4 months old to group swim classes that start at the age of three. The small class size four students to one instructor is ideal and keeps the children safe. They are efficient getting kids in the water on time and parents out and the next class up and running. The floor instructor calls the parents the last 5-minutes of class for observation. This has been fun to watch and see the growth in as little as six weeks.
The only downside is parking. Goldfish Swim School is conveniently located near Little Kickers, IK Gymnastics and while Goldfish Swim School has their own designated parking spots, after school can be a challenge and one may wait up to 15 minutes for a parking spot, be sure to get there early and in plenty of time especially if it is after school or on a busy weekend.
Being a health conscious parent, better and healthier snack options would be great in their consessions. There is quite a bit of sugar based candy, bars and snacks that does not fuel for these growing bodies. After a swim lesson, you may want to bring your own healthy snack to appease those appetites until dinner time.
Overall, it is a wonderful institute, the quality of instruction is above expectations, the level of service has been mind blowing and if they can have some blended drinks on hand to sip on, it could feel like a little mini vacation or maybe a little coffee in the mornings.
Goldfish Swim School offers classes seven days a week and is located at 2630 W Bradley Road.
