British Secret Agent 007 James Bond (Pierce Brosnan) and 006 Alec Trevelyan (Sean Bean) are in a secret soviet chemical weapons plant. Objective blow it up. Bond is setting the charges and Alec has been captured by a Soviet General by the name of Ourumov (Gottfried John). Bond sets the charges to go off a little sooner than expected. Alec is killed by the General and Bond escapes.
Nine years later, Bond is sent to observe a test of a French helicopter called a Tiger. He notices Xenia Onatopp (Famke Janssen) who he knows from other missions. She is a top Soviet helicopter pilot. Bond comes to the test just as she is stealing the Tiger.
Onatopp and General Ourumov arrive in Siberia at the GoldenEye research facility. They capture the controls to GoldenEye and then kill everyone at the facility. One person does escape a Natalya Simonova (Izabella Scorupco).
Bond is back in London with M (Judi Dench) and she wants a run down on all that has happened. On the imagery Bond sees that Natalya is alive and has climbed out. So has General Ourumov and he wants the girl. She can say what he has done. Now the General resigns his command and goes after the girl.
Bond is sent to Russia and meets up with his CIA counterpart Jack Wade (Joe Don Baker). It is Wade who can get Bond in to see Valentin Zukovsky (Robbie Coltrane). Zukovsky has no love lost with Bond as it was Bond who gave him his permanent limp years before. Zukovsky can get Bond closer to the one's who stole both the Tiger and the GoldenEye.
Bond eventually will meet Onatopp and she will later lead him to the mastermind of all this but to tell you would give away all the secrets. You must watch the rest to find out what happens to Bond and the rest of the cast.
This is Pierce Brosnan's first Bond adventure and what an adventure it is. Director Martin Campbell does a wonderful job with this film, and with Brosnan's first role as Bond they both do quite well. Enjoy.
