The show has interrupted the Tuesday night TV drama line-up consisting of “NCIS”, “NCIS: Los Angeles” & “Vegas” which “Golden Boy” will replace (10 p.m.) for the next two weeks. CBS has been heavily promoting this new show for the last month. Those promos introduced a young ambitious police cop partnered with an experienced homicide detective. According to the official website of - “TV by the numbers” that tracks overnight TV ratings. “Golden Boy” nabbed 10.46 million total viewers on its’ primetime TV premiere.

“TV by the numbers” says that on Feb. 26 in primetime television - "CBS was the number one network in adults 18-49 with total viewers. - 'NCIS' scored a 3.4 in adults/18-49 rating - 'NCIS: Los Angeles' earned a 2.9 adults/18-49 rating -'Golden Boy' garnered a 1.8 adults/18-49 rating."

The synopsis of “Golden Boy” comes from the internet movie database (IMDB) website. It is - “A drama about the meteoric rise of an ambitious cop who becomes the youngest police commissioner in the history of New York City - and the high personal and professional cost he pays to achieve it. Walter William Clark, Jr. (Theo James) flashes back on his hard-fought journey from street kid to the most powerful man in law enforcement. After only three years as a beat cop - Clark's heroics on the job make him bold enough to ask for and receive the unheard of promotion to Homicide Detective - angering the members of his new department who are eager to see him fail. Clark's disappointed to be partnered with veteran Detective Don Owen (Chi McBride) - a gruff lifer just two years shy of retirement.”

“Golden Boy” opens with two police officers running into the middle of a burglary in progress. Walter guns down the burglars, saves a hostage & his partner who was also shot. He is very troubled by the gunfight that haunts & angers him. That incident makes him a hero & his face is plastered all over the New York newspapers. Walter’s anger pushes him toward ambition in becoming a homicide detective.

That is when the gritty drama begins on this exceptional new cop TV show. Walter walks into the homicide division inexperienced & runs up against seasoned detectives. He makes one mistake that breaks the law as he pushes his anger to the surface. He slowly gets reined in by his new partner Don who is a smart old veteran. He doesn’t like Walter who lets his ambition interfere with his job, but likes the boy’s street smarts.

“Golden Boy” is a clever, realistic & ambitious new cop TV show that has well written characters. The surprise comes in a TV show that doesn’t follow every “CSI” formula that TV audiences see each week in prime time. Kudos to the show’s lead actors Theo James & Chi McBride.
