If you've only ever seen Going Second play in clubs and at the Utah State Fair, their benefit show at the Murray Theater came as an excellent surprise. With flashing stage lights, lasers, UV reactive set up, and fog, Going Second brought the full rock n' roll package to the stage. No need to mention the endless energy and great rock/alternative/pop-punk sound that makes a crowd jump and down and scream happily. There was also a raffle, giving away things such as watches, backpacks, Skull Candy headphones, dance lessons, guitar lessons and the mother prize, a signed guitar. A comedian entertained in between bands and during the raffles.
Opening bands were Spobo, The Mighty Sequoya and The Direction. Going Second likes to incorporate student bands/orchestras from schools in which they take their tour with Music Makes Music into their shows. Students from Crescent View Middle School and Mountain Ridge Junior High played with the boys in this show. There was no shortage of screaming, excited, high school friends and fans. Not to mention all other friends and fans, who were no less excited about the local band who has graduated into full blown rock concerts all over the country.
Don't forget that donations to Music Makes Music are tax deductible. It is a non- profit organization which supports Music Education in schools and helps students understand all the ways music is a good influence. Going Second is the ambassador band for the organization. The overall message is to encourage kids to use music as their get-away and to pick up an instrument, not a drug. If you still have yet to see a G2 show, a rectification is recommended.
