God’s Promises for Graduates, Class of 2011, Thomas Nelson, 2011, 208 Pages, ISBN-13: 9774714189683, $14.99
Commencement exercises are soon to begin as students prepare to graduate and enter a new season of maturity. Some will pursue employment opportunities while others might plan to continue their education for more advanced degrees. Whatever their intent, graduates need wisdom, insight, encouragement and direction as they face new challenges and opportunities.
God’s Promises for Graduates, a yearly series for over 25 years with sales in excess of 13 million copies, is a perfect gift for son, daughter, friend or any graduate to remind them of God’s desire to direct and provide for them.
The first two segments, “what to do when you need” and “what to do when you feel” offer several scriptures on personal needs and emotions. “What the Bible has to say about” includes scriptures on addiction, love, marriage, money, and pride. The remaining sections, Jesus and what He means to you, biblical responsibilities of fellowship, prayer, forgiveness and God’s will connect readers with God’s will for them.
I liked the “what to do when you are…” section with topics of fear, prayer, doubts, choices and seeking God’s will, issues everyone deals with and for some, almost daily. With contents arranged topically, then alphabetized, the graduate can quickly find the topic of fear for instance and the related pages of scripture. The first scripture on fear: “God has not given a spirit of fear, but of power and of love…” (2 Timothy 1:7)
This small keepsake gift book with gilt-edged pages features a soft imitation leather cover and is a perfect size to slip into a purse or backpack. Class of 2011and graduate cap and tassel stamped in platinum foil embellish the cover and spine. The gift book comes with a presentation page, silky ribbon marker, and 2011 graduate charm and is available in three editions:
Whether graduates look for employment or continue their studies, commencement is a time of endings and increased responsibilities. God’s Promises for Graduates: Class of 2011 with topics on character, integrity, loyalty, respect and perseverance is a memorable gift for graduates that offers “…encouragement and direction for a brand new road in life!” I also think it’s useful as a Bible companion for anyone.
