God of War Ascension single player review

God of war Ascension is a prequel to the best selling franchise God of War where Kratos seeks freedom, redemption, and the clarity to avenge his family. The untold story is very interesting and epic to say the least, this games story is very addicting, you can find yourself playing hours on end. Greek mythology is interesting enough to stand on it's own, but throwing a player into the world of greek mythology is adds to it. The world beneath Kratos' feet is in great detail; from a titan all the way down to the cuts on Kratos body. The gameplay is very smooth and fluent which is a big plus, nobody likes choppy games.

Like the rest of the God of War franchise some areas require some strategy, don't worry it is not a strategy based game, so there is very little. The downfall of this is the fact that there is no hint button if you do end up getting stuck, but that is something you shouldn't have to worry about too much. If this does present a problem just simple find a walkthrough online.

The game itself is very long which is good because you get your money worth. Some chapters are really short, but other chapters make up for it for being really long. The use of camera angles and pans make the game a tad more interesting; over the shoulder camera views can be boring and result in a lack of interest. Even though the camera angles are fancy sometimes they can be a problem. When having to jump gaps the camera can be in a position where misjudging the gap can happen and result in death. Again this is a little problem and shouldn't have to worry about it too much.

With the addition of new combat mechanics and chaining together a nice combo can provide endless entertainment. However fighting multiple enemies can be annoying because even in the middle of a combo or a special attack enemies can still hit you. Some enemies through out the game and some bosses attacks can not be blocked, so evading is a must. There are a fair amount of checkpoints throughout the game, but where they are located may be frustrating. For example when fighting waves of enemies, the only checkpoint is at the beginning, so when you die you have to start over. Finally killing every enemy to move on gets old real quick, so running through the game a quickly as possible is not possible.
