Inspired by The Old Jews Telling Jokes website and written by Peter Gethers (President at Random House Films) and Dan Okrent (first public editor of The New York Times), this show comes to Chicago after its successful off-Broadway run in New York City.

The routines, timing, and tone of this 75 minute production are reminiscent of the old vaudeville shows, and you’ll find yourself laughing pretty much non-stop from the first joke to the last.

The show touches on a variety of life experiences common to everyone, but with a Jewish perspective. The Jewish audience members will likely recognize a lot of familiarity in the jokes, while Gentiles will get an amusing glimpse into how Jewish people use humor to face life’s challenges.

The show features five cast members: Dara Cameron, Alex Goodrich, Tim Kazurinsky (alum of Saturday Night Live), Renee Matthews, and Gene Weygandt. The stage settings by David Gallo are appropriately minimal; after all, the focal point is the jokes, but they effectively enhance the humor.

Old Jews Telling Jokes is a quick-paced, light-hearted, and very funny look at life’s surprises and our human frailties and foibles.

Old Jews Telling Jokes has just been extended and will run through February 16. The Royal George Theatre is located at 1641 N. Halsted in Chicago, and valet parking is available for $12. Click here to purchase tickets.
