Giant Drag: 'Waking Up Is Hard To Do' (2013)

'Waking Up Is Hard To Do' by Giant Drag is an Alternative Indie-Grunge album.

The opening song (entitled: '90210') opens up with a high production, meaning while the style could be classified as "Garage Pop", the recording itself. The female vocal almost sounds like a teenage Alanis Morissette in this track- this comparison goes away for me throughout the other tracks on the album, but it was my initial first reaction.

The second track (entitled: 'We Like the Weather') is a west coast anthem that delves into a more eclectic "pop" sound, and I'm not a huge fan of it.

The third and fourth tracks (entitled: 'Won't Come Around' and 'Do It') are the perfect blend of both, with Grunge sounds and spirit within digestible structures- sounding undeniably enjoyable.

Tracks like "Garbage Heart" are more subdued and slower paced tracks that add a good layer of depth to the record. The transition in moods between "Garbage Heart" and "Meowch" is also noteable- as "Meowch" starts off sparse (following "Garabe Hearts" lead) before ultimately growing into chaos.

My personal favorite track on the record is "Dennis the Pennis".

Altogether a lovely and dynamic album.
