Nowadays comics are the big thing in entertainment stepping out of the pages and onto both the big and small screen. While the talk focuses on the box office domination, there was an even bigger shake up in the industry that forever changed comics during the 90s with the formation of Image Comics. Now fans that there when it all began and those that are new to comics can get the whole story with the latest documentary The Image Revolution.
In case you were living under a rock and have no idea who Image Comics are the film takes a journey back 20 years when seven superstar artists left Marvel to create their own company, Image Comics and not only changed the industry forever, but was a media frenzy like the industry has never and will probably never see again. Over the years, those that were there during the Image boom heard all the stories and rumors surrounding the rise, fall, and rebirth of Image Comics. While it never left and is as strong as ever today it definitely had its internal struggles and this documentary finally gives fans all the answers they could want. The film features interviews with all the original founders Todd McFarlane, Rob Liefeld, Marc Silvestri, Erik Larsen, Jim Lee, Whilce Portacio, and Jim Valentino as well as a slew of others that were working for Image or just fans taking fans on a behind the scenes journey of what really happened. There is tons of stock footage and nostalgic memories to be had for anyone that was there from the beginning that not only tells this great story, but also sure to bring back some great fun memories for the fans. The guys all tell it like it is and never seem to sugar coat the feelings they had at the time or the trials and tribulations that they went through within this venture. Some of the biggest revelations are the reasons that some may not have heard and reactions to some of them returning to the publishers they wanted away from.
This is a must have documentary for anyone that is a fan of comics now or was during this time. While not everyone are fans of all the creators there is no doubt that they changed the industry for the better and opening the path for creators to get back to what they were meant to do and that is create.
