I’d sure like to see this performer live in Vegas. I heard his latest album on the web the other day, and then I saw his latest video. Smart, clear, clever, and very rhythmic, Phil Stoodley is the kind of artist I would pay to see.
A New Zealander, Phil has been guitaring since he was 15, first playing in cover bands across his own land, and then in Europe, UK, Asia, and the US. I don’t know if he ever made it to Vegas, but it would be to our shame if a Vegas stage manager didn’t call him up for a solo or at least a jam session while he was here. It would be a case of what came to Vegas, got away from Vegas.
In his travels Phil has dueted with Hanna Grace and written a number of melodies for Movies and TV. He’s scooped up awards for Best Songwriter and Best Singer at the New Zealand Battle of the Bands, and played with international bands like Velvet Revolver, Simple Minds, and Neil Finn. His newest plate of songs , “No Surprise, ” is stirring up fans and recording executives all over the world.
The disk has been called “a gentile midday mix, easy on the ears and brimming with meaning.” I can’t argue with that. Check out the featured single “Walk Forward in Motion,” and tell me if it doesn’t haunt you all day long. Then watch the Video and tell me if you aren’t indeed spooked by the animated story of love, time travel, and the environment. It’s a spooky kind of love story, and it’s great to watch and listen to. Hear out the entire album and you’ll know he can rock as well as roll a ballad.
The more I hear Phil’s music the more I want to march down to the powers that be camped out over at Caesar’s Palace and Planet Hollywood and demand they plant him and his great talent here in Vegas for a while.
Come on Phil, Vegas is waiting, baby!
