Documentaries deliver some of the most powerful stories around if the focus on the subject matter is dealt with properly. Last year saw a powerful film Rush from Ron Howard following a famous rivalry in the Formula 1 racing circuit, but the latest film ‘1’ gives fans a closer look at the sport, but does it make it pass the finish line or will it run out of gas too soon?
‘1’ follows the golden era of Grand Prix Racing telling the story of a generation of charismatic drivers who raced on the edge, risking their lives during Formula 1's deadliest period, and the men who stood up and changed the sport forever. This is one of those films that is really well done and interesting, but is obviously geared towards a specific audience. Those hardcore racing fans are sure to love this film as it not only discusses the sport itself, but takes you even further behind the scenes regarding the safety problems and issues between some of the drivers. Those that are not fans of the sport may find it harder to get into strictly due to the content. It is perfectly executed with vintage footage of racing and interviews as well as plenty of current opinions making sure to get the complete story out there.
This documentary follows a pretty by the numbers approach to telling its story, but due to the content still manages to work perfectly. As mentioned before it is geared towards a certain audience, but take a chance and step onto the track and see what is so exciting and dangerous about not only the races, but what goes into them and check out ‘1’.
