THE TEST:
I've been wearing the Medium & Light Hiker socks from the Lifestyle Outdoor Series for several months, on an almost daily basis. Both styles feature arch support, a turn welt top, and flat toe seams. True to Goodhew's claim, the socks were breathable and very comfortable. I've worn both pairs with a wide array of footwear including casual shoes, trail runners, and hiking boots. Each pair of socks coupled well with whatever the assigned shoe of the day happened to be.
The socks did a fine job of keeping my feet warm and dry. Whether I was wearing breathable trail runners or insulated Gore-Tex boots, my feet were able to maintain a comfortable temperature and level of dryness. The fact that there are no seems sitting towards the front of the toes is also a huge plus, especially after 10 miles of hiking.
THE BOTTOM LINE:
The Medium & Light Hiker socks from Goodhew are extremely comfortable and priced below many other quality merino wool socks. Beyond that, they do a great job of keeping feet warm, dry, and odor free. Between the Medium and the Light Hiker, all bases are covered from hot and dry days, to cold and wet ones; short day hikes to multi-day backpack trips.
