"Orzhov Oppression" is one of five new "Gatecrash" intro packs revealed today Jan. 22, 2013 on www.DailyMTG.com. Like the "Return to Ravnica" intro packs ("Rakdos Raid," "Izzet Ingenuity," "Azorius Advance," "Golgari Growth," and "Selesnya Surge"), each of the new "Gatecrash" intro packs comes with a how to play insert, tip guide, and two unopened "Gatecrash" booster packs for an MSRP of $14.99.
The Orzhov Syndicate hides its racketeering enterprises under a veneer of piety. Lead the corrupt hierarchy to victory with the "Orzhov Oppression" deck. Clamp down on your opponents and bleed them dry, drop by inevitable drop.

The "Orzhov Oppresion" intro pack seeks to prolong the game by exploiting cards with Extort, a new mechanic from the set that allows you to pay W or B whenever you play a spell to deal one damage to each opponent and gain one life. As the game progresses, this deck becomes stronger. If you have three cards with Extort on the battlefield you can pay three mana to deal three damage and gain three life for every opponent.
In addition to the many cards with Extort you'll be able to further punish your opponent with annoying enchantments like Blood Reckoning which can force them to only attack with their largest creatures. The deck's low removal count means you'll have to carefully cast Murder on key threats.
Like every intro pack, "Orzhov Oppression" boasts many suboptimal cards because it's meant for newer players to have an "aha!" moment when they open the two included booster packs and discover a better card than one in the main list. The included insert suggests adding two powerful mythic rares to the deck: Sublime Archangel and Obzedat, Ghost Council. You'll also want to get your hands on a play set of Blind Obedience.
