Gatecrash 'Gruul Goliaths' intro pack deck list and review

"Gruul Goliaths" is one of five new "Gatecrash" intro packs revealed today Jan. 22, 2013 on www.DailyMTG.com. Like the "Return to Ravnica" intro packs ("Rakdos Raid," "Izzet Ingenuity," "Azorius Advance," "Golgari Growth," and "Selesnya Surge"), each of the new "Gatecrash" intro packs comes with a how to play insert, tip guide, and two unopened "Gatecrash" booster packs for an MSRP of $14.99.

In "Gruul Goliaths"

The brutish outsiders of the Gruul Clans are sick of being kicked around. It’s time to taste sweet revenge. You’ll build up a base of speedy mana, then knock the smirk off your opponent’s face with the "Gruul Goliaths" deck’s stream of hulking monsters.

"Gruul Goliaths" comes with two rares: A premium foil Rubblehulk and Gruul Ragebeast.

If you like to play big threats and then turn them sideways, then the "Gruul Goliaths" intro pack is for you. You'll always have the largest creature during combat, even if your opponent manages to have a bigger blocker. That's because the deck is packed with Bloodrush creatures, a new mechanic allows you to pay a price and discard them to pump up your attacking creature.

In the "Gruul Goliaths" intro pack you'll always want to make sure to attack before playing your threats. An opponent won't know if you're holding a Ghor-Clan Rampager until after they've declared their blockers.

As with any intro pack, "Gruul Goliaths" features several suboptimal cards so new players to the game can get that "aha!" moment after they opened the two included booster packs and find better cards than in the deck. The included insert suggests adding Elderscale Wurm and Soulbond creatures like Wolfir Silverheart. Clan Defiance and Gruul Charm are two other cards from "Gatecrash" that you'll want to pick up.

If the "Gruul Goliaths" intro pack doesn't mesh with your play style, then one of the other four "Gatecrash" intro packs might:
