It seems like we've only just begun a new year, yet here we are only two weeks from Valentine's Day. And right on cue comes "Enough Said," a beautifully realistic middle aged romance newly released on DVD. Julia Louis-Dreyfus and James Gandolfini as you've never seen them before deliver career crowning performances in this quiet, unassuming piece of absolute perfection.

Louis-Dreyfus shows amazing emotional honesty and dramatic ability as Eva, a divorced mom and struggling masseuse. Gandolfini brings an equally astounding low-key charm and natural ease to Albert, a divorced dad and television historian. Both are feeling the onset of empty nest syndrome as their respective daughters prepare to head off to college. Both are also rebounding from failed marriages to people who could not accept and love them for who they are. A lovely first date leads to a developing relationship between them. However, Eva's new patient turned friend (a subtly hateful Catherine Keener) starts Eva down a path of second guessing and criticizing the man she is falling for.

Toni Collette and a delightfully deadpan Ben Falcone are also perfectly cast as Eva's amusing constantly bickering friends. Teen actresses Tracey Fairaway and Tavi Gevenson as Eva's daughter and her best friend and Eve Hewson as Albert's daughter are fresh, honest and oh so welcome non-angst ridden wonders. You'll thoroughly enjoy meeting all of them.

As perfect as the cast is, they owe everything to the superb screenplay and direction of Nicole Holofcener. Her lack of Oscar nominations in both categories is perhaps the biggest snub or shocking oversight of this awards season. This is a completely original story with one of the truest depictions of life, romantic or otherwise, you will ever see. The uncomfortable, funny, heartwarming and beautiful characters and situations will instantly connect with everyone. The dialogue is so lifelike you forget it's scripted and the story flows with ease and effortless economy to its simple yet wholly satisfying conclusion that knows when there has been enough said.
