I recently had the privilege of experiencing an evening of fun from my local GameTruck from Indianapolis. The GameTruck is a unique mobile video game studio that comes right to you for birthday parties and other special events. GameTruck offered to do a party for me so I could experience it for myself.
The GameTruck arrived early and began to setup. Jason, the game coach, started the generator, opened the awning on the side of the truck and readied the game consoles. The GameTruck is completely self-contained, and climate controlled. Our party was on a rainy and cold February evening and we were completely comfortable inside.
Before each party begins the GameTruck coach takes the party host on the truck. They give you a brief tour of the gaming space and show you the wall of game choices. The game truck has a large comfortable couch that stretches along one side. Opposite the couch are 4 large screen flat panel televisions above a shelf and storage area that holds the gaming systems and controllers.
The wall of game choices contained about three dozen titles. Jason was very knowledgeable and explained any of the games that I was not familiar with. Game hosts have the final say on what games are offered to players. Any unapproved games are removed from the wall before the first guest even boards the truck.
We had a wide variety of ages attending the event and everyone was able to find an old favorite or a new challenging game to play. Even though I chose to remove two of the more mature game titles there was still a lot of game choices for the diverse crowd. Even with several people on the truck, the game play experience was quite good. Part of the couch even slides into itself to open space for dancing games that require a larger floor space.
Jason, changed games, gave brief instructions and gameplay hints to get new and experienced gamers up to speed and playing quickly.
For parents trying to justify the cost of renting the Gametruck for your event, once you add up the expense of throwing a typical birthday party with games and entertainment, GameTruck is a real value. GameTruck isn’t just for birthdays either, they also do corporate events. Homeschoolers might consider hiring GameTruck for an end of the school year surprise with other homeschooling families.
