You probably know by now that Columbus has a new casino - Hollywood Casino. You might not think of a casino as a place to go for happy hour, and bar at this casino doesn't have a traditional happy hour, but it is really a pretty good place to meet with friends and have a couple of drinks.
The bar is pretty large and is right in the middle of the casino and all the action. They have many television screens, including one that seems to tower several stories high, resulting in a good place to watch sporting events as long as you don't mind not having the audio. There is ample seating at and around the bar to accommodate groups, and the service is good.
There is an excellent selection of draft and bottled beer, wine, and a well stocked array of liquor; everything you would expect of a casino bar. There are no happy hour prices for food or drink, but the prices were pretty well in line with most Columbus area bars (non-happy hour prices). Tip: If you sit at the bar and order a draft beer you get a pint glass. If you order a draft "to go" and walk around the casino, you get a 12 oz. plastic cup of beer for the same price as the pint. So if you like getting ripped off of 4 oz. of beer, order for "here" and make your own "to go" cup after you get a couple of gulps.
The casino is really top notch, and a few steps from the bar you can try your luck at the tables or slot machines, making a really fun and non-traditional happy hour.
