Galleria Ristorante in westbury long island, has long been a family favorite for fine italian dining. Galleria became part of the westbury dining scene in 1984 and today continues its tradition of exceptional italian cuisine and fine service. Today, it is overseen by co-owner/executive chef James Mollitor,who had originally been with the kitchen at Galleria, when it first opened. In recent years, James and his charming wife Deborah purchased Galleria from the original owner and now are actively involved making sure that each and every diner has a totally memorable dining experience.
Galleria has two old world styled elegantt dining rooms with large banquets, white table cloth tables, floral arrangements and beautiful lighting fixtures and sconces.After years of decay and neglect, Westbury is exciting and modern. Galleria is an integral part of the reinvigorated and rebuilt downtown westbury. Westbury also has added a new music theater featuring famous actors, comedians and musicians walking distance from the restaurant.
We were invited by Jim and Debby Mollitor to attend one of their famous wine tasting dinners during the week. Upon our arrival we were greeted by Jim and seated for a special four course meal accompanied by domestick and imported wines for each course. from California, Italy, and Argentina. Robert Ruvio, a well known wine expert introduced each wine, and then discussed the country's that produced the wine including Spain, Italy and the U.S. Our tasting dinner this evening, was prepared by Jim, a graduate of La Verrene, culinary school in Paris, France. Jim's menu consisted of Italian favorites, and his own specialty dishes.
We began our meal with a hearty and delicious dish of home made pumpkin gnocchi- large orange hued, flavor filled dumplings, with roasted mushrooms, and sage buttter.
Our second course was a leafy Frisse Salad make with smoked applewood bacon, warm brie, and cranberry vinaigrette. A perfect followup to our gnocchi with its tasty light dressing and zesty taste of bacon and brie. The wine selected for this course was "Due Torri 2011".
We were given a choice of three entrees : Pan Seared Arctic Char, Wild Boar Osso Bucco, and Grilled 1/2 Free-Range Chicken.
we chose: The Wild Boar Osso Buco- tender meat falling from a large bone made with a red wine reduction, and accompanied by a creamy polenta. We also sampled the grilled 1/2 free range chicken- made with herb de provence, honey glaze, and potato croquette.
Both of our choices were accompanied by a fabulous Cristol 1492, Malbec, Argentina.
We took a brief respite to discuss the wines with Robert and the meal with Jim as well as to enjoy the warm and welcoming ambiance of our dining room. We finished our meal with an exciting visual and taste treat for Dessert- Bread Pudding, and Cinnamon Gelato. The selected libation to accompany our dessert was a unique pumpkin-cello cordial. A wonderful sweet way to end our fabulous wine tasting feast.
Galleria under the new ownership of James and Deborah Mollitor has enhanced the reputation of this already iconic venue. A truelly memorable evening of great italian food, fabulous wines, and great service.
