Do you like Cuban food? Ever heard of this restaurant called "Cuban Pete's" in Montclair, New Jersey? Located in Bloomfield Avenue. This place is fast-paced, entertaining with lots of loud Latin salsa music playing in the background. Good place for large group get together or birthday parties. If you are planning on a intimate dinner date or looking for some good conversation with a couple friends, this may not be the place. Best thing about Cuban Pete's, ti's BYOB, which you can't find in many restaurants these days. From time to time, the waiters will bring out the drums to sing happy birthday celebrants, and you can witness and hear these about three to four times during your meal. It is actually very entertaining.
The food was pretty good, but I believe I have eaten better Cuban food at some other local restaurants. From decorations to cultural settings, the vibe truly captures the Cuban culture the second you walk in. Indoor and outdoor seating are available at this place.
Street parking is available but can be a pain on the weekends, which is typical in downtown Montclair area. This place only takes reservations for a party of 6 or more. In addition, the small waiting can be a bit awkward and feeling cramped. The hostess is very pleasant to us when we walked in. The service is great and enjoyable. This place definitely stands out compare to other restaurants in Montclair due to the huge portion and reasonable price.
I definitely recommend the seafood paella, (Pernil con Tostones) shredded pork with plantain, and the Pollo Cubano. The Sangria menu is also worth looking into. I would recommend this place if you have a group of friends to go for a fun night out or afterwork hang out where you can just let loose through the loudness of music and entertainment, and delicious food. All in all, I give this restaurant a 4 out of 5 for the interesting cultural setting, BYOB, and fun entertaining atmosphere.
