Contemporary and modern, KiSara is the antithesis of your typical Japanese venue. The decor is a stylish mix of metals, rich dark woods, directional lighting, bamboo, glass and straw accents, with avant-garde metallic balls adorning the entrance and sitting area. The room is dominated by its open kitchen design and the omnipresent sushi bar that serves as a focal point and a hotbed of dynamic activity. You can choose to sit at the bar to be near all the action, or opt for western style seating in the main dining room, or Asian style seating in the four adjacent private dining rooms.
The menu is deceptively small as it packs a surprising diversity of options. The seafood served is flown in twice a week primarily from the Hokkaido region of Japan. You will discover well-loved favorites along with a few specialties that you don’t see just anywhere. The Kikuhime sake served is another delightful surprise as it is semi sweet with a subtle earthiness that complements the food. You will want to start of with the Sashimi of Salmon, Octopus and Scallop, which are all exceptional. The scallop in particular is sweet and delicate, while the salmon is buttery and the octopus is extremely tender. For sushi I recommend two signatures that I have not tried anywhere else. The Spicy Scallop Roll and the Crispy Salmon Skin are both exceptional. The sweetness of the scallop is perfectly balanced with the slight heat in the roll and the crispy salmon skin is well matched with the soft rice and creamy sauce. Be sure to try the Deep Fried Soft Shell Crab Salad, which comes on a bed of lettuce and an evocative mix of carrot, cucumber and pumpkin strings. Tossed with light sesame dressing, it's cool, crunchy and thoroughly satisfying. The teppanyaki is perhaps my favorite and the Hokkaido Scallop, Japanese Oyster, and Calamari are all quite magical. Cooked to perfection, and served with a bevy of traditional sauces, it is a guilt free indulgence that you can order over and over again. The Rock Dale Angus Beef is another treat, especially if you have it served medium rare. Vegetarians will appreciate the ample selection of fresh grilled veggies and the carrot in particular is exceptionally sweet and memorable. The tempura and bacon wrapped skewers are also worth trying, but the real highlight is the Deep Fried Japanese Oysters which are served pippin hot. One of my all-time favorite dishes is the Japanese Oyster & Mushrooms Grilled in Foil Wrapper. The mushrooms and oyster are an unbelievably sublime match and it is amazingly flavorsome without feeling heavy or oily. Dessert is a choice between seasonal fruit, crème brûlée and homemade ice cream. The Matcha Green Tea Ice Cream and Red Bean & Vanilla Ice Cream are the standouts from this selection.
KiSara is a breath of fresh air and they distinguish themselves by serving classic Japanese cuisine with the addition of premium free flow sake and Prosecco.
