Picked up on a whim from a bookstore clearance bin, this reader was delightfully surprised to find, 'Foul Play at Four,' to be a satisfying enchanting, and engaging read.

Published in 2011, as the eleventh installment in the Lois Meade mystery series, the novel opens to find the small village of Long Farnden falling victim to a rash of robberies.

While being a full time owner of New Brooms a cleaning service, Lois still finds time to be a part time amateur sleuth, and the robberies have her intrigued. That is, until her daughter Josie's shop is hit , and Lois finds her beloved husband hit, as well, over the head that is when he unwittingly bumbles into a robbery in progress.

With her New Brooms staff behind her, and the infatuated Inspector Cowgill keeping her in the loop, Lois is hot on the fiends trail.

As if, robberies weren't upsetting enough Lois and her employee stumble across a very beat-up man with ties to the robberies, who soon ends up very dead. Add to that the possible sale of a well known manor, and Long Farnden is in quite the uproar.

Can Lois hold down her business, solve a murder, and hold off the affections of one Inspector Cowgill? Or will this mess prove to be one even Lois cannot clean up?

Bursting with quirky charm, unique characters , small village magic, murder, and mystery makes, 'Foul Play at Four,' a lovely and entertainingly good read.
