Food Review: McDonalds new Fish McBites, fish nuggets of fun (Photos)

For years the only alternative for non-meat, only seafood eaters at the golden arches was a salad or a fish sandwich, which has been on the McDonald’s menus since the beginning of time. The short lived veggie burger never made the cut. Finally, Mackey-Dees have brought in a cute little snack food to compliment its cousin the chicken McNugget. Huffington Post reported that they did their own taste test and gave the tasty little treats two thumbs up. If I were stranded on an island and all I could find is a McDonald’s fish sandwich, I would die with an empty stomach. I was hesitant to try the McBite due to my grand dislike for their fish sandwich.

I had heard that the Fish McBites were coming out and not surprised that the McDonalds located appropriately next to my gym was advertising a snack pack size of McBites for $2.29. I decided to take the plunge. There are three different sizes and I also found that their containers are made to also hold the various sauces, great commuter food. The same sauces are used to dip chicken McNuggets – honey mustard is great with the McBites which I think tastes much better than the McD fish sandwich.

Here’s the positives on these little snack size, there’s a lot to eat in that little snack box. I guessed about 10 or so little poppers. The outer batter is nicely crunchy, none were oily, perfectly cooked and the fish is nice and flakey – see the photo slide show. The negatives? I couldn’t find any, until I went to another McDonalds closer to my home and found out their snack size McBites were only $1.99 – what’s up with that? Either way, I would eat them again.
