I am taking a huge risk writing this article because it may very well anger the big boys who run the food conglomerates that produce what we eat. Like most, I am just your average meat, poultry and grains eating consumer. Recently, I watched a DVD that literally made me want to throw up everything I've eaten in the last 60-something years of my life. Well, maybe not quite all. I remember back in the day when my grandmother grew all of our food in her garden. It was fresh, wholesome, flavorful and juicy; and not like the tasteless, cardboard versions of food we sometimes get nowadays.
The DVD I watched was "FOOD INC, " the 2008 documentary, produced and directed by Robert Kenner, that exposed a not too flattering side of the corporate controlled food industry in the U.S. Whether you are a carnivore, vegetarian, lacto-vegetarian or whatever, you should check out this DVD for yourself. At the very least, it may change the way you look at food, or change your eating habits or both. And that's what some in the food industry are afraid of. The food industry is big, really big. According to "FOOD INC," there's a whole good ole boy and girl network of corporate food executives, attorneys, government lobbyists, government bureaucrats and even a Supreme Court justice who have locked arms in a legal conspiracy to control what farmers grow, how it's grown, how it's harvested, processed and how its packaged for the consumer (always read the labels). The same conspiratorial chain of control is said to exist in the meat and poultry industry. Could it be that corporate profits are valued more than the public health?
And if you think government regulators have got your back, you might think differently after viewing this film. So far, all I've done is recommend a documentary to you. I haven't bad-mouthed any particular food or mentioned any of the companies cited in the documentary. There are specific laws in place to punish people for doing so, even innocently. These food libel laws, known as the Veggie Libel Laws, were passed by 13 states to protect the food industry from critics. Most notably, Oprah Winfrey was sued under this law by meat producers for saying on her TV show that she would no longer eat this product.
I trust that you, the public, are capable of viewing "FOOD INC" and making up your own mind as to what's best for you based on your own common sense and desire to be healthy .
Then God said, “Look! I have given you every seed-bearing plant throughout the earth and all the fruit trees for your food. And I have given every green plant as food for all the wild animals, the birds in the sky, and the small animals that scurry along the ground—everything that has life.” Genesis 1:29-30 NLV
