One of the best things about being a wine pro in a restaurant is trying lots of different wines. When customers bring bottles they always want the sommelier to try their wines and get a stamp of approval on their good taste. More often than not the wines are often very good.
Recently I had the good fortune to try Fontinella Family, Beckstoffer Georges III Vineyard, Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley, CA 2009. The color is garnet red and has aromas of strawberry, raspberry, eucalyptus and graphite. The palate is filled with tart cherry along with the strawberry and raspberry and eucalyptus that were in the nose. The wine has nice acidity and smooth tannins that lead to a medium finish.
This wine may be hard to find, but the effort is worth it. Pair it with rich eye steak right off the grill.
