Frascati, an ancient wine favored by popes and people for two millennia. Made from grapes grown on the outskirts of Rome in the region of Lazio. According the Banfi website, importers of Fontana Candida Frascati,
“ While the popes drank Frascati daily, the people would only drink it on important Vatican occasions. It is said that during the papal elections of Innocent X (Giambattista Pamphili in 1644) and of Clement X (Emilioi Altieri in 1670), Frascati spouted from the fountains, the marble nostrils of Marcus Aurelius’s horse and the lions of the Capitol to the delight and amusement of the people. Citizens rushed out with bottles and cups to capture the wine and enjoy it fully.”
Fontana Candida, Frascati, 2012 gets its grapes from the hills throughout the region of Lazio and is a blend of 60% Malvasia Bianca di Candia, 30% Trebbiano Toscano, 10% Malvasia di Lazio.
The Fontana Candida Frascati is light straw colored. It has aromas of lemon, peach, minerals and wet grass. The refreshing palate is full of tart lemon, tangerine, peach and light minerals. Acidity on the finish adds balance to the fruit forward start.
