Ever since Dorothy raved about the great turkey bacon on the Children’s Waffle breakfast, I have wanted to review Flo's V8 Café in the new Cars Land attraction in California Adventure at the Disneyland Resort. The problem is that I don’t want to get up early enough for breakfast on my day off. So Dorothy and I went for a late night dinner, close to closing time.
This is a fascinating attraction in itself because Flo's V8 Café drops their diners into a typical ‘50s era Route 66 diner. The menu too is a takeoff on such a diner though updated to include vegetarian dishes and, obviously, turkey bacon which I don’t recall seeing as a child.
My major complaint about authenticity is that Flo’s V8 Café serves fountain iced tea instead of fresh brewed iced tea. That was unheard of in the 50’s when foods, and iced tea, were prepared fresh, in-house.
The other difference, which I can’t fault Disneyland for because of the crowds here, is that a diner would have table or counter service. So we got in a very short line to order thanks to deciding to eat at 9:30 PM.
Pork Loin, $11.49
Flo’s V8 Café serves their pork loin with a Coca-Cola® BBQ Sauce plus a choice of two sides. (Note: this dish contains nuts.) Dorothy selected the Vegetarian Baked Beans and cole slaw. She enjoyed her pork loin. Dorothy reported that it was very good though she preferred it as a sandwich. She did feel that the Coca-Cola BBQ flavor was so strong it overwhelmed the pork loin.
Flo’s made their BBQ beans with two different beans. They were a touch too firm.
New York Strip, $11.99
I ordered the New York Strip plate with Home-Style Beef Gravy. My two sides were cole slaw and the vegetable mix of peas & carrots. It was a nice alternative to fast food but lacked anything to make it memorable. In fact, I made a sandwich to finish it.
The cole slaw was a vinegar based cole slaw. It was good for that type of cole slaw.
Pie – Holiday, $4.99
The special when we ate at Flo’s V8 Café was a pear, cherry and cream cheese pie. We thought it had good flavor and a flaky crust. The flaky crust is one of Dorothy’s criteria for a good pie.

If you’ve read my reviews before, you know that fountain iced tea is a major disappointment.
Nevertheless, overall, we enjoyed this experience and the return to yesteryear. The food was good. The entertainment value of the diner environment and all of the activities in Cars Land that were going on here was great.
