“Fleshbags” is a riveting novel by author, Gerald Dean Rice that promises action from the very start. This novel takes off in a heart-racing escapade against time itself. But no, this novel isn’t all blood and guts, it contains some heart as well. The characters are brilliantly sculpted. One of Rice’s best accents as an author is his uncanny ability to create a relatable character from the get-go.
Now that we have action, and fantastic characters, the plot goes deep into the author’s psyche, playing on their humanity and pulling the heart strings. This epic zombie story contains the journey of many characters. Rice does a fantastic job at grasping ahold of your heart: the empathy you feel for his characters is near unbelievable.
There’s something for everyone to relate to in this ultimate tale of survival. What will one do to achieve their goals? What are they willing to sacrifice? Where are the levels of humanity in the midst of the apocalypse? Rice offers answers that are not only satisfactory, but will keep your mind churning, wondering where he will take it next.
The descriptions he gives will haunt your mind forever as he strives to create a new breed of zombie. I dare say he was wildly successful! Rice creates a stunning image as he describes what these zombies are about, how they function, and how each individual character sees them.
I’m not really a fan of books that switch from one character’s story to the next, but I was happily shocked and awed with this story. Rice has mastered the writing skill, and was able to keep his characters individual, his thoughts clear, the plot line suspenseful and steady, and write a brilliant novel!
I highly recommend this to anyone who loves zombies, suspense, good writing, and a fantastic story. This books is ideal to read for aspiring authors as so many great skills are expressed throughout the chapters.
