It is a flashback to the 1980’s with a delightful onstage remake of the 1983 hit movie Flashdance that starred Jennifer Beals. Flashdance the Musical at the Aronoff Center is currently being performed until November 10, 2013.
The story is that of Alex Owens Pittsburgh steel worker by day and bar dancer by night. She is spirited, and independent. She has dreams but also has insecurities with her education, social status, and experience. Nick Hurley the son of the owner of the steel factory is intrigued with Alex. He pursues her to date him for the longest time with no luck. Everything changes when she sees him as a real person who cares about people.
The music in this show is enticing making audiences wanting to sing and dance with the performers. The music selections include songs from the movie also well as 16 additional ones written just for this show. Some of songs performances included, Manic, Put It On, I Love Rock and Roll, Here and Now, What a Feeling, and Dealbreaker. The set design is great and the water scene is remarkable.
Jillian Mueller is a true professional she carries out the role of Alex Owens skillfully. She is believable and has the audience cheering her on all the way.
Corey Mach as Nick Hurley performs his role as a true champion. He wants to make his own way and not depend on family connections. He expresses his love for Alex and has empathy toward his workers.
