Five Finger Death Punch bulldozed into the Eagles Ballroom at The Rave in Milwaukee on Saturday, Oct. 5, for a sold-out show. Touring on "The Wrong Side of Heaven and the Righteous Side of Hell," the Las Vegas based heavy metal outfit has steadily grown into a tightly-knit machine with a rabid fan base. Escape the Fate provided direct support while Miss May I and Gemini Syndrome opened the show.
Ranging from the hard hitting "Under and Over It" to power ballad "Never Enough" to the emotional "Coming Down" vocalist Ivan Moody easy transitioned from power screams to melodic vocals. His command of the crowd from the front riser was apparent from the moment the curtain dropped. Crunchy riffs supplied by guitarists Jason Hook and Zoltan Bathory pushed the general admission crowd into a frenzy early into the show. Drummer Jeremy Spencer sat high atop his drum platform at center stage as bursts of light pulsed from behind his kit. Spencer and bassist Chris Kael--whose beard has now attained epic status--combined to drive a rapid fire rhythmic assault.
Moody addressed the crowd after "Burn It Down," noting "We first played this room while opening for Korn," referring to a show in late 2007. He added, "Because of you, we are here tonight as one," thanking the crowd indirectly for their cult following and highest charting album to date. Moody then proclaimed, "When I say Five Finger you say..." and the fans responded with an emphatic "Death Punch" as they proceeded into "The Way of the Fist."
There was no shortage of crowd surfing and vocal accompaniment on the night. The intimate nature of the Eagles Ballroom is the perfect venue for a metal show and the performance more than made up for Wisconsin being snubbed again during this year's Mayhem Festival, which featured Five Finger Death Punch on the main stage as direct support for Rob Zombie [review]. The current North American tour runs through October, wrapping up in Colorado on October 27. European fans will get to see FFDP opening for Avenged Sevenfold, who are also currently touring North America [review], commencing in November.
