Do you travel for work? It can be difficult for the road warrior to find a great workout that will allow the complexity of a personal trainer. But it can be done and cheap!
Apps are the way of the world. There are several iPhone apps that are worth mentioning that will give you a good workout an an opportunity to track your eating.
Nike Training Club - One of my favorite iPhone apps pairs great work outs with little to no equipment necessary. You can choose to use your own playlist from your phone as well to work out to. The Training Club can be a 30 or 60 minute workout. The voice tells you the next move (you can also watch videos to see how to do it properly), encourages you and counts down the minutes.
Sworkit - Similar to the Nike Training Club is Sworkit. The great feature about Sworkit is that you can choose how long of a workout you would like. You can fit in a 10 minute workout right in your hotel room before the day even begins. (This also allowed me to hit the snooze button one more time).
MapMyFitness - I use the MapMyFitness app to do several things - but in an unfamiliar territory, the app finds great paths and routes near me and operates on a GPS system to I can tell exactly where I am and how many miles I have traveled. I can also post these results to social meda as well as tracking nutrition.
Starwood Resorts (which includes Sheraton, Westin, W, and Aloft) have worked in conjunction with New Balance to offer fitness equipment rentals! Forgot your sneakers? No problem! Just let the concierce know your size - they will send shoes and workout clothes to your room.
We recently tried it at the Westin in Snowmass, Colorado. We thought that it would be kind of "gross" to work out in someone else's sweaty clothes and worn in shoes. My daughter and I were very surprised to have brand new shoes and clothes with tags still on them delivered to our room. Plus, the concierge can also offer you a run map if you wish to take to the outdoors. We also found out that you can download workouts right from your computer on their Sheraton Fitness website.
It is not so difficult to find great and inexpensive ways to work out wherever you are. Squeeze in some time.
