First Fridays in Greenville

Want something fun to do on a Friday night? Well, keep on reading and see what is here for you.

On the first Friday of each month, downtown Greenville hosts a visual arts event for both the locals and the tourists. It is called, of course, First Fridays.

With a humble beginning in 2001, First Fridays is now a major arts attraction with 25 galleries participating. Currently, the event is organized under the leadership of Liz Daly and a select group of dedicated local artists.

Extending from North Main Street and deep into The Pendleton Arts District, each gallery offers a wide range of work from local, regional, and even national artists. Some of the galleries, such as 10 Central Avenue Studios, have working artists in a variety of media to speak with visitors and to demonstrate their art.

At the participating galleries you will find everything from 2D oils, watercolors, acrylics, and photography, to 3D pottery, sculpture, woodwork, jewelry, glasswork and much more. A true visual arts experience for all ages.

The official hours are 6:00pm to 9:00pm. No need to have dinner before arriving as most of the galleries offer free food and drink to everyone attending.

In addition, many of the galleries have special receptions on this date for individuals or groups to exhibit and sell their art. This is a great opportunity to view the work of both established and emerging artists.

Yes, there is a website. Go to www.firstfridaysonline.com to see a complete listing of all participating galleries. You many also pick up a colorful, glossy brochure at any of the locations.
