So you're getting ready for your next vacation. What one item do you need to pack that will take you from hiking to biking to late-night dancing? Yep, that would be your favorite pair of jeans.

Do you know if you're shaped like a pear or an apple, or square like Sponge Bob? Do you stress over having a flat bottom or a bedonkadonk? Is a muffin top something you try to hide? These are the questions you need to answer before shopping for your new favorite pair of jeans.

It's imperative to be comfortable when you're on vacation. Your jeans need to be as easy-going as your own skin whether they're stretchy, cropped, ankle, skinny or bootcut flares.

What's your favorite brand?

I asked friends on facebook about their favorite jeans recently and here is a sampling from twenty-somethings to totally cool grandmas.

The following brands were touted as personal favorites but we're only discussing women's jeans today (even though both John and Larry were willing to share their favorite brands to help with the cause).

Once you've met your favorite jean (Lucky brand), write down the style number and order a second or third pair. You don't even have to leave the house to get your favorite pair once you've already made contact. Order online and get them at a reasonable price.

Some strong favorites include Chico's denim which is known for having a bit of forgiving spandex. This makes women over thirty happy. Nordstroms carries a wide variety of the Kut from the Kloth brand in short shorts, Bermuda shorts, cropped and bootcut jeans and denim skirts for solid choices at any age.

One friend told me her favorite brand and style is the Levis 504 slouch jean. This pair works well for a small frame with a tiny butt. And she looks great in hers!

What's the best jean color to wear?

We know that darker colors make us look slimmer, but sometimes faded blue denim (like these by Not Your Daughter's Jeans) take us back to a better, kinder place. Maybe they remind us of our teen years or the time we volunteered overseas.

Whatever the reason, there's always room in the closet for those faded, colored jeans with just the right texture and color to be healing like this pair from Rag and Bones.

Do remember that dark blue or black jeans downplay heavier hips and thighs and should find a place in every girl's closet.

If you want to wear khaki or white capris, do it as long as you wear a peasant blouse or long tee to cover your hips while accentuating your legs. Check out Joe's denim styles at Anthropologie for more ways to wear your jeans in a clean, sleek way.

Should I wear high-waisted or low-waisted jeans?

If jeans are too loose throughout the hip area, you'll look heavier than you really are. A good choice would be slightly slouchy like these Daisy Loose Crop fitted jeans which land a few inches below your belly button.

If you wear your jeans too low your slightest tummy bloat will show. And according to Kaylee Mock, a 20-something fashionista, we shouldn't wear them too high either, or we'll look like we're wearing our mom's '80s jeans.

What about my butt?

Little back pockets will make your butt look bigger than it really is, though some people really like that look. To diminish the size of your butt, go for medium-size, standard patch back pockets. For a super wide-leg, soft jean, try Urban Outfitters.

If your butt truly is a bedonkedonk, you just may decide you want to accentuate the size of it. If not, there are plenty of ways to work around this and create a more streamlined look. Not Your Daughter's Jeans have some really nice jeans with just the right amount of spandex to work with that problem area.

How do I decide on the length of my jeans?

Buy one pair that are long enough to go with your tall wedges and a pair that you can wear with your ballet flats or summer sandals. This way, your jeans have defintely got you covered, no matter where you're going or what you're doing.

So, what's your favorite pair and what's so great about them? I'd love to hear your tips!
