Let's Be Cops

Fans of the Fox show "New Girl" rejoice! Jake Johnson and Damon Wayans Jr are teaming up again in the newest buddy film Let's Be Cops. The film focuses on two 30 year old has-beens who are still trying to make it big in LA. After discovering that their police uniforms from a costume party can score them some major attention from the ladies (and some free marijuana), they begin posing as real cops to feel good about themselves for just a little bit longer. Let's Be Cops is a fun movie with some laughs and extremely talented comedic leads, but with a predictable script and mediocre writing.

Johnson and Wayans Jr really give life to this film. While Johnson plays the same kind of character that he always plays, the guy with potential who would rather just not get his life together, Wayans Jr steps away from his typical role and plays the straight man. While both performances make you laugh out loud -- including one bit n particular that makes you laugh until you cry-- there is just something about this movie that keeps it from being an excellent summer comedy.

Perhaps the movie is a bit lackluster because the plot is predictable. Of course, if you watch a ton of movies, every film's twists become predictable. However, it felt like this whole movie had been done before. The jokes were new, but nothing that happened to the charming leads was. The movie is entertaining, but the script made it fall flat instead of shine.

Let's Be Cops is a cute film that has some immensely talented actors. While it is definitely a fun date-night film or something to see with your friends, it isn't one of those movies you will want to buy so you can watch it over and over again. It is just another buddy (fake) cop movie, in the end.
