Although all of Last Vegas' stars have Oscars to their names, you do not expect much from this film. You walk in to the theatre just wanting to see four of the coolest men to ever grace the big screen hanging out together, yet you get so much more. Last Vegas is surprisingly hilarious. It has a great script that makes you laugh until you cry but also makes you feel something. The acting is obviously superb. It is a solid comedy that deserves a lot of praise.
The acting in the film is obviously spectacular. The four leading men are all Academy Award winners, although Kevin Kline is the only one who won for a comedic film. His timing and delivery in this movie is impeccable and he definitely shines in his element. The other three, who are usually portraying more serious characters, do great at bringing smiles to the audience as well.
These great actors would have nothing without their well-rounded, hysterical script. Although there is a lot of vulgar name calling, the PG-13 film keeps the usual nasty jokes of recent comedies to a minimum. There are several ball jokes, but they all serve a purpose to the film. Writer Dan Fogelman (Crazy, Stupid Love) seems to always know the perfect one-liners to mix with just the right amount of serious conversation.
Last Vegas is a chance for audiences to simply have a good time at the movie theatre. While it may not bean award-winning movie, it is entertaining throughout and incredibly well written and acted. It is a great escape for anyone that could spare a couple of hours to fit in more than a few laughs.
