Rich chocolates, fresh pastries, savory sandwiches and creamy coffee - who knew that the Nordic lands that inspired Ken and Barbie would produce such great breakfast foods?
Fika is Swedish verb that means to take a coffee break a a string of Swedish coffee shops around the city show that the Swedes "fika" very well! In the morning they serve fresh cinnamon and cardamom parties to accompany their well made coffee/ espresso drinks. Especially the cardamom pastry is worth trying- it is different, in a divine way.
At lunch they serve up a wide variety of sandwiches and soups. Expect to see a lot of Scandinavian staples like salmon, mayo, dill and (of course) meatballs. All are tasty and stay true to the flavors of Sweden.
The star of Fika though is certainly the chocolate. Sweden is the best kept secret in the chocolate producing world but it won't be for long with the quality of product that Fika is churning out. Fika has a great variety of flavored chocolates to choose from but certainly try the passion fruit chocolates, they are simply beautiful.
