Located about 10 miles East of Carmel, California, the Pelio vineyard sits on the North side of the Carmel Valley, at about 1,000 feet above sea level, creating a cooler growing climate. The vineyard consists of 15 acres, of which 12 are planted in Pinot, the other 3 in Chardonnay.
This Pinot is barrel aged for 11 months. It has a rich, enticing aroma of smoke, earth, chocolate, and a faint herbal quality. The flavor is of dry cherries, pepper, and strawberries. The wine is slightly on the acid side, with a hint of licorice. It has a medium-long finish that evolves through its flavor profile with a velvety mouthfeel and just a touch of bitterness.
This wine paired quite well with grilled Irish Salmon, topped with a Kalamata Olive drizzle.
