"Fidel" was filmed in 1968 by Saul Landau who had unprecedented access to Fidel Castro, the communist leader of Cuba.
Castro talks as Landau follows and films.
The group, including Castro and his military bodyguards, visit several locations where Castro talk to his 'people,' listening to what they have to say about problems in their villages. Fidel often promises things such a new road, etc.
Castro plays baseball, (badly), with some villagers. Talking, constantly talking, about how great his country is, how great he is running his country and other self-serving statements.
The best part of this documentary are the parts where historical scenes are shown, (archival film). The Bay of Pigs and scenes with Che Guevara are interesting, but they aren't enough.
A documentary should always teach the viewer something they didn't already know. There was little to learn and, of course, it was one-sided. This film is in black and white which adds to the dreariness of this film. It's depressing.
It's rare to see footage of Fidel Castro and I wouldn't expect a color spectacular, but I believe this film could have been done if a non-communist side was also included.
The film can be purchased at all the regular outlets such as Amazon and eBay.
